“The breathtakingly staged Broadway adaptation of Disney’s king of the cartoon jungle is an instant theater classic.” – Entertainment Weekly

The Lion King tells the story of the Pridelands where Mufasa reigns as King. But his brother Scar is jealous and wants to take the kingdom for himself. Upon the arrival of Mufasa’s son Simba, Scar inheriting the kingdom from Mufasa was now impossible. Hence, Scar successfully deviced a plan and murdered his brother and cast the young lion cub Simba away to a far away land. Simba spent years in the jungle with his friends Timon and Pumbaa but an encounter with an old friend made him rethink about coming back to the Pridelands to gain back his throne.
The Liong King the Musical comes bearing mind blowing visuals and crowd stirring score. This remarkable production brings the magic of Broadway right to the heart of Dallas. Taking over the Music Hall at Fair Park for almost a month, it’s bound to be the biggest theater spectacle happening in the city this season! And it’s all yours for the taking! If you happen to love The Lion King’s original 1994 film, you’ll absolutely love this thrilling stage adaptation. Recorded to be the third longest running Broadway musical, The Lion King has continued to entertain audiences across the world. The show has been seen by over 100 million viewers and grossed up to almost $2 billion. Not only is it a worldwide commercial success but also a sensational triumphant project in terms of creating a significant impact in the theater industry.
The Lion King is lauded by its amazing costumes and puppetry. Award-winning director Julie Taymor conceptualized how the different animals were represented on stage. It’s a combination of stilts, mechanisms that mimic animal movements, along with historically and culturally relevant design. Making this experience as authentic as possible, the creative team made sure the musical paid homage to African culture. This production also brings the music of The Lion King to life. The show features original music by multi award winning and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee songwriter and singer Elton John and lyrics by Songwriters Hall of Famer Tim Rice. But since the production has been especially adjusted to fit the live stage, the musical also brought in the talents of Grammy winning film score composer Hans Zimmer, Lebo M, South African singer-songwriter Tsidii de Loka, Mark Mancina, and Jay Rifkin.
Of course, the storyline remains an homage to the original film but the production brought in the co-director of the film, Roger Allers who worked with screenwriter Irene Mecchi to adapt this amazing epic for the stage. Lastly, the North American touring production brings along a stellar cast – it’s a team of artists that gained praises from critics and fans alike. This 2025, the ensemble includes Peter Hargrave as Scar, Darnell Abraham as Mufasa, Erick D. Patrick as Simba, Nick Cordinleon as Timon, and Danny Grumich as Pumbaa. Together, these amazing actors will bring the magic of the original film to the big stage.

During its 20th anniversary, The Lion King the Musical had a big celebration with all the critics and theater fanatics. The production remained the most exhilarating showcase Broadway has ever seen. “A jaw-dropping magnificent spectacle. The show and the playhouse are enchanting. The unprecedented production is worth every penny. If this is Disney’s idea of a theme park, we are delighted to report that the theme is quality,” wrote Newsday.
Over at Time Magazine, the writer expressed, “Awe-inspiring! Broadway theater is alive again. [Julie] Taymor’s imaginative ideas seem limitless. it’s a gorgeous, gasp-inducing spectacle. Most important – against all odds – it has innocence. The show appeals to our primal, childlike excitement in the power of theater to make us see things afresh.”

Theater fanatic Greg Evans from Variety had all the great things to say about this thrilling production, “Julie Taymor’s staging of Disney’s The Lion King is a marvel, a theatrical achievement unrivaled in its beauty, brains and ingenuity. Leaping far beyond its celluloid inspiration, the stage version improves upon nearly every aspect of the hit 1994 animated film, from visual artistry and storytelling to Lebo M’s score and the newly African-ized pop songs of Elton John and Tim Rice.”
Lastly, Entertainment Weekly mentioned, “The breathtakingly staged Broadway adaptation of Disney’s king of the cartoon jungle is an instant theater classic.”
Besides praises from the critics. The musical also brought in a ton of accolades. The Liong King won the Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Choreography, Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Lighting Design. The production bagged a total of six out of 11 nominations in 1998. Over at the Drama Desk Awards, The Liong King took home Outstanding Director, Outstanding Choreography, and five more other awards.
