Disney’s The Lion King came on to the classical theater stage with a distinctive execution; critics claim that the show, since its debut, had utilized new elements that were unusual in old theater and become more than a musical. With its utilization and combination of dance, costume design, and especially 3D puppetry, it became a very well-defined musical matching up to to all theater performances. Since the narrative of The Lion King has animals as the characters, specifically the young Lion Prince Simba and lighthearted turned courageous life story, the most difficult task for the production was to bring this tale to life on stage without looking fake. Julie Taymor, the show director, embraced this challenge and also embraced the skill of utilizing puppets, masterfully utilizing life-sized animal puppets for the live depiction combined with outfits and music displaying African culture that upgraded the Broadway classic.
